The Coaching Process Five Essential Skills
Learn how coaching is a process that requires the capacity to build rapport, facilitate learning, observe and analyze, question and listen, and provide feedback. Evaluate your own level of confidence and competence in these five skills of the coaching process.
The Coach's Toolkit
Examine tools and techniques such as self-assessment profiles, books, articles and worksheets for use with clients. Practice coaching strategies such as reframing, focused listening, effective questioning, and "bubble-up" prioritizing. Review and apply models/frameworks and some "on-the-spot-laser" coaching activities.
Your Coaching Practice
Role-play an initial coaching session and receive feedback on your performance. Present an overview of your client's coaching goals and your next-steps plan with this client. Evaluate your own areas of competency and confidence to identify your coaching niche. Explore how to build, promote, and manage an internal or independent coaching practice.
Altering Attitudes, Influencing Actions ... The Coach's Role
Help people identify counterproductive attitudes that hinder their success. Explore how people's behavior styles influence their beliefs, and how beliefs drive behavior. Identify common stress reaction behaviors, reframe defensive responses, and provide guidance in identifying more productive behaviors in order to achieve desired results.
Coaching Practicum
Participate in a coaching practicum with master coach Barbara Wilson. The practicum consists of 3 one-on-one sessions: 2 individual phone sessions (1½ hours each) and 1 group session (4 hours). During the practicum, you are encouraged to contract with a coaching client on a pro-bono basis and to report your progress to the master coach for feedback and support on your coaching intervention.
