Human Resource Management

Professional and Workforce Development offers several options for human resource management training:

Professional in Human Resources

*Open enrollment courses may be taken individually or as part of the Human Resource Management certificate program.

Continuing Education Hours

Upon completing a program, you will be eligible for continuing education contact hours/CEUs and a letter of completion from the University of South Florida, which may apply for professional development credit. The following organizations have approved our HR programs for recertification credit:

 

HRCI LogoUSF is an Approved Provider of the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). The use of this seal is not an endorsement by the HRCI of the quality of the program. It means that this program has met the HRCI criteria to be pre-approved for recertification credit.

APA  LogoThe American Payroll Association has designated USF Continuing Education as an Approved Provider. Recertification Credit Hours (RCHs) will be awarded for participation in certain courses. See course content for details. Click here for more information.


USF CertificateHuman Resource Management Certificate - Tampa

This certificate program provides a comprehensive, practical foundation for HR generalists. People employed in HR will acquire a broader understanding of their profession, gain skills required for advancement, and acquire an educational credential in HR. New HR staff and career transitioners will receive a solid HR foundation. Tampa HR classes are offered on an open enrollment basis. You enroll for each individual course.

To earn the Human Resource Management certificate, you must complete eight core courses and two electives over a two-year period. When you have completed the requirements of the program, you may request your certificate. Non-certificate students may enroll in individual courses.

Certification Preparation

Professional in Human Resources (PHR)

This intensive program is designed to help HR professionals prepare for the Human Resource Certification Institute's (HRCI) National Examination for the Professional or Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) designation. Instruction follows the SHRM Learning System™ and covers six modules required for the PHR/SPHR accreditation: Total Rewards, Employee Labor Relations, Risk Management, Human Resource Development, Workforce Planning Employment,and Strategic Management.

The course is sanctioned by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Tuition includes the SHRM Learning System™ but not the registration for the PHR/SPHR examination. You must have a minimum of two years exempt HR experience to sit for the PHR exam. For information on eligibility to sit for the PHR/SPHR examination, go to www.shrm.org.

Students in the USF St. Petersburg program achieved a 100% pass rate during the spring 2008 PHR exam period.

This program is available at various times throughout the year at the following locations:

For applicants with a minimum of four years HR management experience, we also offer an intense three-day SHRM-sanctioned review course to prepare you for the SPHR Certification examination.

 

Students in the USF program achieved a 100% pass rate during the spring 2008 SPHR exam period. In 2008 the USF PHR/SPHR program was recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management as one of the top 20 SHRM Learning System™ classroom programs.

Human Resource Management Certificate

The Human Resources Management Certificate Program is presented as a single program in St. Petersburg. The fourteen courses in the program are presented in sequence; students register for the entire program and must complete eight core courses and two electives to earn the certificate.

Personnel Tests and Testing

In this course you'll concentrate on the most common sources of data collection for test prediction: cognitive ability tests, projective personality and interest inventories, leadership ability tests, projective devices, and personal history data. You'll review copyrighted and generic paper-and-pencil tests, as well as procedures for developing tailored selection tests.

This course covers the organizational and behavioral issues associated with attracting employees, predicting future performance of recruits, selecting qualified individuals, matching recruits to positions, and developing effective policies and procedures to guide the process.

In this course, you will identify sources of on-the-job accidents and injuries and explore means to reduce them. This intense three-day SHRM-sanctioned review is designed for applicants with a minimum of four years HR management experience. The review course prepares you for the SPHR certification examination. Advance preparation is required. Registration includes a copy of the SHRM Learning System™ and CD-ROM study disk. Registration does not include the examination fee.
